Oh my dear narrating God above...someone PLEASE pull this audiobook off the shelves! I give up on listening to this, just completely give up....and I’m not even past chapter TWO!!! Look, I know it costs a pretty penny to have an audiobook produced, I’m not unfamiliar with the process myself , but this narrator is oh hall shall I put it? “Bueller....Bueller....Bueller?” I’m returning this to Audible and getting my money back!Gildart Jackson obviously has some talent, he manages to pull off a few subtle accents with a couple of characters during their dialogue so it’s not really his character dialogue that’s the problem; I can look past things I would like to hear done better there. No, it’s the narration in between that completely kills this audiobook and there is quite a bit of that. Mr. Jackson goes totally and utterly flat during these portions of the book. There is no tonal inflection, no emotion, not even a change in the pitch of his voice; it’s as if his voice has flat-lined during narration and when that happens, he completely loses the person listening. Why do I go on and on about this? It’s because bad narration can kill a story.
Never fear though, I shall be back to update my review on this story after I read it for myself. I will definitely give this story and this author a fair shake, but in the meantime I’d love to know what others thought who managed to make it to the end of this audiobook. Honestly, I just can’t see Gildart Jackson making any sex-scene hot. He’s more the speed of hot-rollers and terry-cloth robes.

The Spell The Big Bad Wolf Series Book 3 edition by Heather KilloughWalden Romance eBooks Reviews
Author Heather Killough-Walden book THE SPELL is the third book in The Big Bad Wolf Series. Unfortunately, I have not had the chance to read the first two, so at times I felt a little lost when reading this one.
Dannai the Healer has been hiding her dormancy with magic. As each day passes she finds herself dreaming about two perspective mates but finds both of them to be trouble. One wolf hates the use of magic while the other one is suspected of murder. Both wolves want her and will do anything to get her. Suddenly, their lives collide in very unusual ways.
You will have to read the story to find out how their lives collide. Find how Dannai is able to sort out her feelings towards both wolves. The characters are intriguing. The action is good and there are twists and turns throughout the story that will keep you wanting to read on.
Not for me. There was WAY too much information to follow. Instead of the intriguing and complex world building this book was capable of, it listed everything. It was extremely boring in parts and continually sucked me out of the story with its listing. I really enjoyed Lucas Caige, but Dannai was irritating. Several times the book reminded me that she was the most powerful witch in existence, but it was never shown. And Lucas supposedly hates witches and she has been hiding from him for years, cloaking her magic. There is a big buildup to him finding out and then no resolve. Poof! He was okay with it. So anti-climatic.
Wow! What an incredible story. What I found refreshing was it had much more imagination than wolf find mate the end. It's twists & turns, use of characters to build the plot & tension were superb. I was cleverly mislead a few time - very cleverly done. The characters were enigmatic and you instantly liked their strength but their caring side too. It is a definite page turner. It would have been 5 BUT in the beginning I couldn't get that Dannai & Danny were one & same, it bugged me wondering if it was typo. The beginning was made over complicated with that and the setup - keep reading as it does get better. Again. Towards the end a little complicated as to who was whom from where but nonetheless a superbly brilliant book.
The Spell is the continuation of The Big Bad Wolf series and Killough-Walden does not disappoint as Danny and Lucas are the focus of this action-packed installment. Danny is the Healer we met in The Strip. What we didn't know about her was that in addition to being a powerful witch, she is also a dormant. Her magic has allowed her to mask her dormancy while working with the werewolves and keep it a secret. It's not that she's afraid of being mated to a werewolf despite the warnings from her guardian that a mating will be the end of her healing abilities, it's that she knows one of her fated mates, Lucas Caige, hates magic users and the other is evil incarnate. When Fate forces her to cross paths with Lucas, she soon finds herself the bearer of a bonding mark. But the warlock who feels he has first claim to Danny because she's in his coven uses his extensive magic to prevent Lucas from completing his claim. And the battle ensues as Lucas sets out to make Danny his mate.
It seems as though the author manages to ramp up the action with each installment. Not only does Danny have to worry about her mate rejecting her, but she also has to worry about an obsessive warlock and whether or not her other fated mate will show up and attempt to claim her. At the same time, Charlie is once again being targeted by Phalen. Even though Malcolm proves that he is a deadlier werewolf than Phalen, there are even more powerful forces at work and the dead don't always stay dead in this installment. Despite the constant action, the author does give Lucas a few opportunities for him to show that his distrust of magic users does not apply to his mate. In spite of outside forces doing all they can to keep the couple from mating, Lucas is an alpha male who is not easily deterred and he will accept nothing less than completing his mating to Danny. As with the previous books, the actual mating scene is intense and sexy as all get out. The Spell’s Epilogue has me ready to dive right in to The Hunt.
I reviewed my personal (ebook) copy of this book.
